The most boringest day in sports

So what do you write about on the day that there is no professional sports being played? One of the two days a year that is true — except the other one (Monday) had the Home Run Derby so you have a subject right there. Well there are a few things that can be talked about but if you haven’t been bombarded by pieces about baseball’s first half and what to expect from the season’s second chapter, well, you must not be paying close enough attention or you’re a fanatic. So what else is there?

— The British Open is here. But who really cares if Tiger’s not playing? A major championship without the best players isn’t a championship. The funniest part is that even the second guy the PGA’s money list isn’t playing. I’d take that as a slap in the face if I was a golf fan looking forward to The Open.

— Looks like the Packers were smart enough to follow my plan of how to deal with Brett Favre. The worst thing they could possibly do now is fold. No matter how much pressure is stacked on them, there’s no turning back on their decision now and have to ride it out.

— James Posey has signed on the Hornets. What a great player and great fit for them. It’s hard to see Boston repeating without him. Who would have thought that James Posey would be such a key piece to championship team twice in three years? I thought the logically destination for him was the Lakers though.

— So the Nuggets wanted to restructure their team so bad that they traded defensive stalwart Marcus Camby (and his 3.1 blocks per game) for essential nothing? The do get some wriggle room in terms of cap but still have their hands tied. On the flip side, the Clippers aren’t really a great fit for Camby. He and Kaman are both natural centres and aren’t quick enough cover athletic 4s. I don’t understand why the Clips didn’t take runs at Okafor and Josh Smith before making this move.

— You’re telling me that known scumbag Kirk Radomski just coincidentally found an HGH receipt with Roger Clemens’ name on it under a broken tv? Are you serious? How could anyone think this is credible information?

— The NHL are running with their best idea in a long time: An outdoor game. This Jan. 1 the Blackhawks and Red Wings will faceoff at Wrigley Field. It’ll be hard to live up to the climate, atmosphere, play and outcome of last year’s classic, but at least they’re giving it their all while the novelty’s still there. I think the game should’ve been giving to Montreal though. Why not celebrate their centennial season with a spectacle like that?

— And, it’s good to see my main man Fidel Castro is still kicking and taking it to the man.
