Another stunning season begins

Since the NFL feels like kicking off their season on Thursday nights now, it leaves prognosticators like myself the thrill of having to break down one game several nights before the rest of week’s match ups. Granted, it does mean one less game to break down for Sunday’s slate but it just doesn’t feel right. NFL football is meant to be played on Sundays with one special Monday night tilt. Thursday games are sacred and should be spared for Thanksgiving, not for nights that the NFL Network can make you tune in. So, without further ado, the first pick of 256, most of which I’m sure will be wrong — but hey, I’m hoping for a big turnaround from last year.

Washington Redskins at New York Giants.
The line from Vegas: Giants by 4.

The defending champions opening at home against a division rival; this opener should be a lot better than the letdown Colts-Saints match up of ’07 … The biggest name that the Redskins brought in this offseason was Jason Taylor but he won’t be at 100% for this game which should leave his debut less than spectacular … The Giants offence is pretty much the same as last year except they’ve replaced Jeremy Shockey with Kevin Boss who is better suited as a run blocking TE … Jonathon Tuck could use this season in the spot light to jump up to elite status as a defensive end. That, or he could burn out horribly and end up costing the G-Men a .500 season.

The Pick: Giants (-4) over Redskins.
More picks coming tomorrow! Don’t you just love NFL season?
