A great fit

The Jacksonville Jaguars filled their biggest hole of the off-season by inking Torry Holt to a three-year deal yesterday. To say that the Jags needed a wide receiver would be a huge understatement. The team had already let go of three wide outs this off-season, including two troubled recent first round picks in Matt Jones and Reggie Williams. Holt had been let go by the Rams earlier this year, with the team moving into full-on rebuilding mode.

Holt is also a huge upgrade in the locker room over a cancer-type like the also released Jerry Porter. Plus, if the Jags had gone through Saturday’s draft without taking a new wide out, they would have ended up with a top trio of Dennis Northcutt, Mike Walker and Troy Williamson. Those three names are pretty hard to get up for and it’s no wonder that David Garrard had trouble this past season.
