It might seem like a minor move to the naked eye or just a deal to find a replacement for Xavier Nady, who needs a second Tommy John surgery, but the trade the Yankees made yesterday might be their answer to making it to the World Series. Yes, New York dealt two minor leaguers to the Pirates for Eric Hinske.
Yes, former AL rookie of the year Hinske could be the solution to the Yanks’ championship drought. Why, you might ask? Look at the past two teams that Hinske’s been a part of: The World Champion 2007 Boston Red Sox and the American League Champion 2008 Tampa Bay Rays.
That’s right, good old Hinske has a pedigree. Now, he might just be another wash out to play in the outfield for the Yanks, or he might be the key piece to their puzzle, but wouldn’t you just love to have a role player be the key to winning it all instead of a guy the Yankees broke the bank for this past off-season?
This could be bigger than the NBA and NHL signing bonanzas that start today.
