Mr. Vick’s debut

I’ve been busy throwing together a division-by-division NFL preview so I haven’t had a chance to really delve into the news the past two days, but there was one thing that caught my eye. Michael Vick made his Philadelphia Eagles on-field debut last night to much fanfare. But really, should we all be waving our hands in the air out of joy because of the six snaps he was on the field for?

Vick played five of his six snaps at QB and one at slot receiver. While under centre he went 4-for-4, but only managed 19 yards. That’s mainly because of those four passes, two were shovel passes and one was a swing play. He had one 13-yard completion, but wake me up when the guy is actually forced to really throw the ball.

Oh, and his fabulous rushing ability? It equated to one yard on one attempt.

And, even if it’s only the pre-season, when a guy actually admits in a post-game interview that the botched a read because he was distracted by fans, well, that’s just got bad news written all over it.
