Happy 1,000th post, RTP!

It has been three and half years, two website addresses, a couple sponsors, a massive redesign, a lot spam comments and one hell of a lazy intern, but Running The Point has reached 1,000 posts with this one you’re reading right now.

We’ve covered it all in the sporting world over these 1,000 posts: Summer and Winter Olympics, three World Series and four Super Bowls. There have been countless NBA and NHL playoff games. There have been some UFC events, some cycling scandals, even some tennis. There was Euro 2008 and now there’s World Cup 2010.

Look at the individuals we’ve had to deal with over that period of time too. There was the Tiger Woods sex scandal, David Beckham’s coming to America and a whole load of steroid scandals in baseball. There was the Chris Benoit double murder-suicide, the Barbaro “tragedy” and Michael Vick’s dogfighting ring.
Heck, there has even been Joey Chestnut’s hot dog eating record.

Just looking back, it’s unfathomable to think about not only how much has been covered. At the beginning, I never would have believed that this blog would do this well and make it this far.

Looking ahead, there’s a lot on the horizon. The sports world is always changing and ever evolving. Anything can happen at anytime out there. Just look at that last list of what we’ve been through and remember how shocked you might have been when first hearing about various stories.

But the news isn’t all that’s coming. We’ve actually got a series of articles about change in sports that will surely conjure up some healthy discussion. And coming this fall, our ever popular – and surprisingly accurate – NFL picks could very well be seeing an audience in national print across Canada.

Really, it’s all thanks to you, the readers. If not for the people reading this site, it would be utterly pointless and it’s a real joy to see comments on our posts. This isn’t supposed to be about writing the news, it’s about voicing opinions and starting debates.

So, this is all for you, readers. If you keep on coming back, we’ll keep on posting. And maybe, together, we can get to 2,000 posts and beyond. All it takes is a little help from you, and even less help from our intern.

And honestly, I look forward to writing another post like this three and a half years from now…
