The return of the Walrus

Tonight marks Andy Reid’s return to Philadelphia, the city in which he coached for 13 years and led the team to a Super Bowl appearance. In tow will be his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs and their 2-0 record.

The new top dog in the City of Brotherly Love is Chip Kelly, who has been setting the football world on fire with his warp-speed offence – but there’s a problem with his style, as evidenced with the Eagles loss to the Chargers on Sunday.

While you can catch the opposing defence off guard, if the hurry-up style doesn’t work, the Eagles defence gets a minimal break on the sidelines.

Against the Chargers, the Eagles offence was on the field for less than 20 minutes. That means the defence was out there for two-thirds of the game – something that doesn’t bode well for the future. A tired defence is a susceptible one and we all know that tired players are also more likely to get injured.

Tonight, I see a shootout of a game, with some big fantasy numbers for both teams. What I don’t see though is the Eagles exacting any sort of revenge – which it really isn’t even, considering the Eagles canned Reid – against their former coach.
