NFL Week 3 picks

The lines are from oddsshark.com and the home team is in CAPs.

JACKSONVILLE -3 over Miami

Well, that just confirms it: Beards are better than moustaches.

Tennessee -2.5 over MINNESOTA

The Vikings look like a mess so far, with only some garbage time points against the Packers making them look respectable. They’ll have a hard time getting their sputtering offence against a stout Titans team.

NEW ENGLAND -6 over Las Vegas

Betting on the Patriots coming off a loss is about a sure of a thing as there is. While the line is a bit higher than we’d like, Bill Belichick and Co. can’t afford to go down to 1-2 with the Bills charging hard.

ATLANTA -3.5 over Chicago

The Falcons couldn’t possibly blow another lead like last week, right? The Falcons offence is certainly there, but the defence needs to step up against Mitchell Trubisky.

Cincinnati +5.5 over PHILADELPHIA

The Bengals have had the extra prep time, coming off a late cover last Thursday night. There’s something wrong with the Eagles, who are dealing with a bunch of injuries yet again.

NEW YORK GIANTS +4 over San Francisco

To say the injury bug has bitten the Niners would be understating it. While the Giants certainly have issues of their own, it’s hard to lay points on a team missing so many of its key players.

PITTSBURGH -4 over Houston

The Texans have run into a buzzsaw schedule-wise so far and it doesn’t get any easier here. The Steelers were tested against the Broncos last week, which should make them all the stronger here.

Washington+7 over CLEVELAND

Washington looks like it has some good pieces and should continue to grow over the season. The Browns couldn’t hold off a backdoor cover last week and it’s certainly in play again this time out.

BUFFALO -2 over Los Angeles Rams

The Rams offence has been looking great in the early going, but hasn’t squared off against a solid opponent yet. Josh Allen has been excellent against some poor teams and will be put to the test with Aaron Donald bearing down on him.

Carolina +6.5 over LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

Justin Herbert looked pretty good for a guy learning he was getting the just minutes before kickoff. But with some tape on him now, opponents can better prepare. The Panthers will be without Christian McCaffrey, but we’re having trouble seeing the hosts cover this line.

INDIANAPOLIS -11 over New York Jets

The Jets were blown out by a team that was losing players left and right, and there are already reports of discord in the locker room. The Colts seemingly got their stuff together last week and should look to get on a roll here.

ARIZONA -6 over Detroit

The Lions will be in tough to contain Kyler Murray and Co. Even with Kenny Golladay looking set to return for Detroit, it won’t provide enough firepower to run with the Cards.

SEATTLE -5 over Dallas

The Cowboys got incredibly lucky against the Falcons and didn’t look so hot against the Rams. The Seahawks are really cooking and Russell Wilson should slice and dice Dallas’ porous defence.

Tampa Bay -6 over DENVER

You know things are bad for a team when they’re bringing in Blake Bortles. The Broncos got away with playing Jeff Driskell after Drew Lock went down, but that’s only fine in small doses. With Courtland Sutton out, too, and Chris Godwin back for the Bucs, we could see a blowout.

Green Bay +3 over NEW ORLEANS

Drew Brees is looking over the hill and the Saints offence isn’t the same without Michael Thomas. Without a real home-field advantage, should New Orleans even be favoured against a powerhouse Packers team?

BALTIMORE -3 over Kansas City

Wow. What a matchup on Monday night. While both offences can certainly run up the numbers on the scoreboard, the Ravens defence is a cut above.

Last week: 10-6

This season: 20-12-2
