Just when you thought you couldn’t get any more news about Alex Rodriguez jammed into your life, there came the word that he has a torn labrum in his hip that might require surgery. Great, now there will be daily stories about the decision of whether to rehab and rest the injury or go under the knife. There has even been word that he was affected by this issue with his hip last season. Now why wouldn’t he have that looked at during the off-season? Does that not sound like some you would tell your doctor about in the case it was serious? Now, if he does need surgery, he could be out of the Yankees lineup for up to four months.
Even worse, if he does miss an extended amount of time, the Yanks don’t have anyone to even adequately replace him. Look at New York’s depth chart: Cody Ransom and Angel Berroa is what they have. Would you feel comfortable with those two? I wouldn’t.
The best option for the Yanks to do is trade for a guy who will be good, but not good enough to deserve any of A-Rod’s at bats when he returns. ESPN points out that Bobby Crosby, Mark Teahen and Mark Grudzielanek are all to be had, but what would New York be willing to part with? Nothing good, I’d guess.
I’d hate to be the guy who has already done their fantasy draft and taken A-Rod in the first round. Might as well quit that league right now; your team is pretty much hopeless.
