While Mark Buehrle may have ended up topping all the headlines last night after his awesome feat of retiring 45 batters in a row, the real news was Brett Favre.
Yes sir, Mr. Favre has finally made his decision and he will be hanging up his cleats for good – we hope. At the least, No. 4 won’t be playing this season and it’s a huge sigh of relief for me, at least. Now there’s no more will-he-won’t-he waffling and drama about where he’ll play. There will be no more news updates about visits with and from the Vikings. No more photos of Favre playing with high school kids down in Mississippi. It’s all finally over.
It’s kind of sad that now Favre will be remembered by younger fans as just an old gunslinger that couldn’t make up his mind. Forgotten in all of this is that he’s a future Hall of Famer and he has now retired. Shouldn’t there be at least one story out there that celebrates his career? I couldn’t find one.
Now, the Vikings are in the hot seat and have to decide in camp whether it will be Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels leading them to an 8-8 record and maybe a wild card berth.
Finally, Brett can sign up and become one of those analysts on the pregame football shows!
