The calendar may say 2021, but we’re set for Euro 2020, delayed a year due to the obvious culprit. Here’s how we think the teams stack up heading into a month of footie.
1.France
Reigning World Cup champions have tough group, but are as talented as they come.
2. Belgium
The top team in the FIFA rankings is our No. 2 team due to De Bruyne’s injury, but has talent to win it all.
3. England
Can this squad’s young stars finally live up to expectations and bring the Three Lions long-awaited glory?
4. Portugal
Won the tournament in 2016 and have some good, young pieces to compliment aging star Cristiano Ronaldo.
5. Italy
In a turn of irony, the weakness of this Azzurri side may be its defence, which features several aging stars.
6. Germany
Looking to bounce back from disastrous 2018 World Cup having brought back some key veterans.
7. Spain
Was already fielding a weaker national side than in past years and now have COVID concerns coming in.
8. Netherlands
Lack of leadership is a concern with Virgil Van Dijk out, as is late decision to switch to a new formation.
9. Croatia
Cinderella story of the 2018 Cup is back, but even with Luka Modric leading, it will be tough reach that height.
10. Denmark
Christian Eriksen is the star of the show, but this is a deep and talented squad with a lot of solid pros.
11. Turkey
Defence was rock solid in qualifying, conceding just three goals, and have a potent attack led by Lille duo Yazici and Yilmaz.
12. Poland
Bundesliga record scorer Lewandowski is a force up front, but recent manager change has not worked well.
13. Switzerland
Xherdan Shaqiri routinely works magic for his country despite limited playing time with Liverpool.
14. Austria
Not the most exciting team, Austria has had trouble matching up with equal or better sides – which isn’t promising for Euro.
15. Sweden
No Zlatan, no problem. This side did well enough without him and can play better as a team in the star’s absence.
16. Ukraine
Managed by former star player Andriy Shevchenko, Ukraine finished above Portugal in its qualifying group.
17. Russia
Rebuilding squad is very tactically flexible, but is lacking on the wings and with overall pace up front.
18. Wales
Have some youth coming through the side, but may still be overly reliant on Ramsey and Bale – both past their prime.
19. Czech Republic
A hard-working side, the Czechs will need to make the most of their set pieces if they hope to advance.
20. Scotland
A big underdog whose two best players play the same position at left back. Hosting two games is huge for Scots.
21. Finland
Will rely heavily on Teemu Pukki, but the squad lacks in terms of talent around the Norwich striker.
22. North Macedonia
The smallest nation in the tournament will play with a lot of heart, but will that lead to any points?
23. Slovakia
With star midfielder Marek Hamsik past his prime and not at 100%, it’s hard to back the Slovaks to go far.
24. Hungary
Stuck in the Group of Death and have already lost their best player, Dominik Szoboszlai, to injury.
