NFL WEEK 1 PICKS: Can the Browns pull the upset?

The lines are from oddsshark.com and the home teams are in CAPS.

TAMPA BAY -8 over Dallas

The champs got their win to open the season, but Dallas certainly showed that it will be a force on offence. It’s just the defence still needs some work.

Arizona +3 over TENNESSEE

The Titans are looking like a candidate for regression after losing OC Arthur Smith while you can’t forget how well the Cards started last season. We’re looking for some similar magic here, even on the road with an early start.

Jacksonville -3 over HOUSTON

This will likely be one of two times the Jags are favoured this season and the other will be when they host the Texans. It’s tough to find any positives for this Houston team right now, so we’ll reluctantly spot the points on the road.

Philadelphia +3.5 over ATLANTA

Which one of these birds will take flight? While we think that the Falcons will have the better season than the Eagles, we’ll take the points and perhaps a big game from Jalen Hurts.

Pittsburgh +6.5 over BUFFALO

This is two big narratives colliding. The Bills are set to make the leap to Super Bowl contenders and the Steelers are on the decline. Let’s not go all-in on those in Week 1. These both could be deadly assumptions. We see this as a closer matchup than the home fans will probably want to see.

Minnesota -3 over CINCINNATI

The Bengals have the makings of a team that should improve as the season moves along. Joe Burrow is coming back from his knee injury and top pick Ja’Marr Chase looked shaky at best in camp. The Vikings shouldn’t have too much trouble.

San Francisco -7.5 over DETROIT

The Niners haven’t been this healthy since the start of last season. In fact, they’ll probably even take out their second QB for a spin if they put this one away early enough. The Lions have a few interesting pieces, but this is going to be the beginning of a long season in Motown.

Seattle -2.5 over INDIANAPOLIS

Carson Wentz looks set to make his Colts debut, but is that a good thing? He won’t be at 100% and that will affect his ability to avoid Seattle’s pass rushers. We’re also very interested to see what the Seahawks’ offence looks this season under a new OC.

WASHINGTON +1 over L.A. Chargers

This should be a great matchup between two playoff contenders. Not a fan of the Chargers playing an early game and its brand-new offensive line may have some issues taking on Washington’s daunting front seven in their first real game together.

CAROLINA -5 over New York Jets

How fitting is it that Sam Darnold gets his shot at revenge against his former team in his regular-season debut for his new squad? This isn’t just about Darnold, though. The Jets are still a ways to go in their rebuild and will have a tough time containing Christian McCaffrey.

Cleveland +6 over KANSAS CITY

We all love the Chiefs and how electric they can be when they’re on, but this is undervaluing a legit contender in the Browns. K.C. had an awful record against the spread last year and even if they pick up the win here, it shouldn’t be by much.

Green Bay -4.5 over NEW ORLEANS

Due to the unfortunate situation with Hurricane Ida, the Saints are hosting this game in Jacksonville, destroying any home-field advantage. They’re also a much worse roster than the playoff team from last year while the Packers kept the gang together.

NEW ENGLAND -3 over Miami

After last year’s mess of a season, the Pats should be back to what we expect of them: A winning football team. This rivalry matchup is a tough debut for Mac Jones, but the amount of additions made in the off-season and the returns on the Pats defence give them the advantage.

Denver -2.5 over NEW YORK GIANTS

We still don’t know what we’re going to get from Saquon Barkley and this Giants offence, but we do know it’s going to be a tough matchup against the Broncos’ stout defence.

L.A. RAMS -7.5 over Chicago

Oh, you think that Andy Dalton is going to come into SoFi Stadium with a shaky O-line against an elite defence and he’s going to look good in prime time? Yeah, I’ll spot the points in Matt Stafford’s Rams debut.

LAS VEGAS +4.5 over Baltimore

Both sides aren’t looking as good as they did last year, but the Ravens have just been rocked by injuries, losing their top two RBs in J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, and a top CB in Marcus Peters. There’s a chance they can still roll with Lamar Jackson at the helm, but this will be tough.

Last season: 112-124-9

Playoffs: 8-5

2019: 129-114-7
