The lines are from covers.com and the home teams are in CAPs.
KANSAS CITY -4 over L.A. Chargers
A lot of bettors are going to be frustrated with the end of that one. The Chargers should’ve taken the field goal early and then went for the onside kick.
Miami +3.5 over BALTIMORE
Two teams that won big in Week 1, but have their issues. The Dolphins’ offence is improved, but still a work in progress, while the Ravens run game didn’t get going against the Jets. The bigger problem lies with Baltimore, whose offensive line is missing its top two tackles.
CLEVELAND -6.5 over New York Jets
Having Joe Flacco attempt 50+ passes is not a recipe for success and with the Jets offensive line missing key pieces, they’ll have a tough time keeping Myles Garrett out of his face. The Browns’ running game remains one of the league’s best and should be able to run up the score – pardon the pun.
Washington -1.5 over DETROIT
Could the Commies be the real sleeper team that nobody saw coming? Sure, it was just the Jags they beat last week, but how much better are the Lions as competition? If Washington can contain D’Andre Swift, this might even become a blowout.
JACKSONVILLE +4 over Indianapolis
It’s going to be hot and humid in Jacksonville, which certainly favours the home team over the dome dwellers. The Colts had trouble with a division rival last week and that could be the case again unless it gets off to a better start.
Tampa Bay -2.5 over NEW ORLEANS
This is it: Tom Brady is finally going to conquer the Saints. While there was a focus on Tampa’s offence not finishing drives against the Cowboys, that’s a fixable problem with time. The defence, however, looked great even before Dak Prescott went down. That’s going to be a problem for Jameis Winston and Co.
Carolina +2 over NEW YORK GIANTS
The pressure should be off Baker Mayfield and Co. now that the huge game against the Browns is over. Saquon Barkley looks to be back to full strength, but we’re not sold on spotting points with Daniel Jones.
PITTSBURGH +2 over New England
Considering how both of these teams looked and fared last week, it’s surprising to see the host Steelers giving points to a Pats team whose offence looked offensive. It seems like a trap and Bill Belichick may have something up his sleeve, but it just seems safer to take the Steelers.
L.A. RAMS -10.5 over Atlanta
The Falcons actually showed quite a bit on offence before inevitably blowing it – as they usually do. The Rams have had their time to prepare after getting pasted in the opener and should be able to take advantage of Atlanta’s shortcomings.
SAN FRANCISCO -8.5 over Seattle
The Seahawks came up with their emotional win on Monday night and now face a short week to prepare for a division rival. Even worse, there’s nothing to take away from the Niners’ Week 1 loss in a monsoon. It’s a big line, but Kyle Shanahan will have his team ready.
Cincinnati -7.5 over DALLAS
The Cowboys defence is going to have its hands full with the offence very likely to struggle with Cooper Rush at the helm. Even with Dak Prescott, there were plenty of issues and that will only be amplified. The Bengals need to work on their turnovers, but aren’t likely to give the ball away five times again.
Houston +10 over DENVER
The Broncos had some terrible luck in Seattle, losing two fumbles at the goal line before blowing the final call of the game. But while that should even out in the long run, we shouldn’t overlook the Texans. Davis Mills has proven competent enough that we don’t feel awful about taking the points on the road.
LAS VEGAS -5.5 over Arizona
The Cards pass defence couldn’t do anything to slow down the Chiefs and will be in tough again. The Raiders should be able to feed Davante Adams at will against Arizona’s weak secondary and also get Darren Waller and Hunter Renfrow into the mix. Can the Cards avoid an 0-2 start? It’ll be tough.
GREEN BAY -10 over Chicago
Like with the 49ers, it’s hard to take anything from the Bears’ first game. The Packers are certainly capable of bouncing back from a big loss, just as they did last year, and should have their top WR in the lineup with Allen Lazard returning to practice. Aaron Jones should be in line for more touches, too.
BUFFALO -10 over Tennessee
Derrick Henry sure didn’t look like his old self last week, despite getting a ton of opportunity to try to lead the Titans offence. The Bills are shaping up to be a juggernaut and are certainly capable of putting up 21 points in a half against Tennessee like the Giants did – and probably in both halves.
Minnesota +2.5 over PHILADELPHIA
Sure, there’s the little matter of Kirk Cousins playing in prime time – games in which he has been awful in the past – but the Eagles have a pretty big issue with its defence. Despite all of the talent, they nearly blew it against the Lions and will have a terrible time trying to contain the Vikings.
Last week: 8-8
This season: 8-8
