NFL WEEK 9 PICKS: Bucs should buck losing streak against Rams

The lines are from covers.com and the home teams are in CAPs.

Philadelphia -14 over HOUSTON

The Texans really have something special in Dameon Pierce. Now, it’s just getting a whole lot of other pieces around him, starting at QB because Davis Mills isn’t going to get it done.

NEW ENGLAND -5.5 over Indianapolis

No matter how rough Mac Jones has looked since returning from injury, the Colts have looked rougher overall. They rank only above the Texans in DVOA and clearly didn’t think through the switch to Sam Ehlinger at QB.

Buffalo -12.5 over NEW YORK JETS

The post-Breece Hall era didn’t start so well for the Jets and it won’t get better here. The Bills are covering the spread by an average of eight points this season and beat the Jets by 28 and 17 points last year.

Miami -5 over CHICAGO

The Bears added Chase Claypool to an offence that is starting to figure things out, but do you know which offence is already in full gear? Miami’s. Without Roquan Smith around to slow them, the Dolphins should put up points in bunches.

Minnesota -3.5 over WASHINGTON

While many are quick to doubt the 6-1 Vikings, it should be noted their one loss came to the Eagles in Week 2. The Vikes have won their past three games by at least a touchdown and shouldn’t have an issue ending the Commanders’ three-game win streak.

DETROIT +3.5 over Green Bay

With the exception of last year’s meaningless season finale, the Packers had beaten the Lions five times in a row, but this is not the same Green Bay squad. Detroit should have offensive weapons Amon-Ra St. Brown and D’Andre Swift closer to 100% too, which can cause problems for the visitors.

Los Angeles Chargers -3.5 over ATLANTA

Based on both sides’ strengths and weaknesses, we should be in for a barn-burner here. The one matchup we like most is Austin Ekeler in the receiving game, especially with the Chargers’ WR corps ailing. The Falcons also have a Thursday nighter to look ahead to.

Carolina +7.5 over CINCINNATI

The one thing that the Bengals struggle the most with is dealing with pressure and the Panthers can do just that. Cincy is also on a short week and looked awful without Ja’Marr Chase, while the Cats lost a heartbreaker. We’re wary of Carolina playing this coming Thursday, but the line seems too high.

Las Vegas -1.5 over JACKSONVILLE

The Jags just keep on blowing it but it’s not like the Raiders are in a better position, with both teams sitting at two wins. The Raiders are a much more talented squad than their record, though. Travis Etienne will get his numbers for the Jags, but that’s about it.

Seattle +2 over ARIZONA

These teams met just a few weeks ago in Seattle with the hosts getting the better of their rival. We could see the same again, as the Seahawks are playing excellent defence and may be able to limit DeAndre Hopkins, who was still suspended during the first meeting. The Cards are also a poor home team against the spread.

TAMPA BAY -3 over Los Angeles Rams

As much as the Bucs are struggling and Tom Brady is being written off, it’s much worse for the defending champs. The Rams offensive line is in shambles, the run game is awful and Cooper Kupp is dealing with an ankle injury. Tampa should bounce back and snap Brady’s career-long losing streak.

KANSAS CITY -12.5 over Tennessee

Andy Reid coming off a bye is easy money, with a 20-3 career record. The Chiefs run defence is allowing the third-fewest yards per game, which is bad news for the Titans. Malik Willis didn’t add much to Tennessee’s offence last week and will be in tough here.

NEW ORLEANS +2.5 over Baltimore

Are the Saints as good as their shutout last week says? That seems doubtful considering the season’s worth of data we’ve gotten. But they’ll be hosting a Ravens team that is likely to be down Mark Andrews and Gus Edwards while Rashod Bateman has been ruled out for the year.

Last week: 8-7

This season: 57-63-3
