Since the Expos left Montreal in 2004 for Washington D.C., many fans have pined for baseball’s return to La Belle Province.
But, it turns out that the majority of players would prefer to see Music City take the big-league stage.
In a poll conducted by The Athletic of 100 Major League Baseball players, those surveyed overwhelmingly picked Nashville as the top potential city for an expansion team, garnering 69% of the vote.
Montreal finished well behind in second place with 10% of the votes while Charlotte, N.C., and Austin, Tex., had 5%. Rounding out the poll were Portland, Ore., at 4% and Vancouver and Salt Lake City at 2%
Nashville already is home to the NHL’s Predators and the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, who had a deal for a new stadium approved earlier this year and is expected to be ready for the 2027 season.
With the Oakland A’s in the midst of a move to Las Vegas, relocation and expansion have been a hot topic in baseball.
In recent years, there have also been pitches for the Tampa Bay Rays to move to Montreal, either on a part-time or eventual full-time basis. The Rays have been playing at outdated Tropicana Field since their inception and have had little luck with trying to get a new stadium built in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
