Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has always been reluctant about taking jabs, but he sure didn’t mind taking a little shot at Chiefs star Travis Kelce.
Rodgers, who was injured in his Jets debut and is likely to miss the rest of the season, poked a little fun at Kelce during his appearance on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.
While Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs defeated the host New York Jets, Rodgers pointed out that his team was able to limit of “Mr. Pfizer.”
“Mr. Pfizer, we kinda shut him down a little bit,” Rodgers said. “He didn’t have his crazy impact game, obviously, he didn’t have his yards and stuff.”
Kelce is the star of a recent ad campaign for the pharmaceutical company, promoting that this flu season, you can get a COVID-19 vaccine shot at the same time as your flu shot.
Rodgers, on the other hand, infamously revealed he did not take a vaccine shot during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that he had used alternative medicine when pressed on the issue.
The show’s co-hosts, McAfee and A.J. Hawk shared a little laugh about the nickname, but did point out some irony about the situation. Rodgers’ team, the New York Jets, is owned by Woody Johnson — the heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical fortune.
J&J, of course, also produces COVID-19 vaccines.
It seems that Rodgers comment was all in good fun, though. Both Rodgers – using crutches due to his Achilles injury – was seen chatting with Kelce on the sidelines before the game in a friendly manner, though Rodgers wouldn’t spill the beans on what the Super Bowl winners were talking about.
“I think some things need to be left on the field,” Rodgers said. “It’s a better story, probably, left up to the imagination. I saw some different things on speculation about what we were talking about. But I’ve known him for a long time, it was just a quick chat.”
