Maple Leafs stars Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner pose as Sobeys trainees to prank customers

Before they do their best to put the biscuit in the basket against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night, some Maple Leafs stars tried their hand at doing it in a more literal sense.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner took turns posing as Sobeys trainees, pranking unsuspecting customers while William Nylander and Morgan Rielly provided some suggestions for the hidden-camera bit.

Matthews, posing as floor worker ‘Ashton Matthews’ for the video, attempted to get customers to do random things to earn a gift, like chug an entire bottle of apple juice or do pushups by the table setup.

After the woman he asked to do the pushups explained she was pregnant and couldn’t do them herself, Matthews took it upon himself to get in a little workout and ‘earn’ the gift card for the customer.

Marner, who went by moniker of ‘Mitchelli Marner,’ did his “best” to help bag groceries at the checkout. Unfortunately for the customers, the high-scoring winger took a few bites out of their food, much to their disbelief.

Marner even got the cashier in on the bit, offering up a jar of peanut butter for a taste, which she happily accepted – much to the delight of his teammates behind the scenes.

The players later ditched the disguises to help customers load their groceries into their vehicles and posed for some photos.

It also was announced that, on behalf of the players, the Maple Leafs have donated $10,000 to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Now, their big task will be trying to go top shelf, where Grandma keeps the peanut butter, against the rival Habs.
