Some superstitions are cute, some are quirky, but others can be a bit disgusting.
As long as they work and they’re not hurting anyone, it’s all good, right?
While it’s hard to argue against the success that Patrick Mahomes has had in NFL career, his superstition definitely is on the nasty side of things.
The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback admitted on this week’s edition of the Manningcast during Monday Night Football that he has worn the same pair of underwear during every game that he has played — with that total currently sitting at 103 games, regular season and playoffs included.
“I love a good superstition, but couldn’t you just do something like eat the same pregame meal? Did it have to be the red underwear?” Eli Manning asked Mahomes during the show, trying to confirm what former Chiefs backup QB Chad Henne previously had spilled.
“First, my wife Brittany got them for me. So, I’m not throwing y’all down, but I have to wear them,” Mahomes said, “At the same time, I threw them on that first season, we had a pretty good season that season. I only wear ’em for game day though so they’re not too worn down.”
But the question that everyone wants to know came next: Do the red undies at least get washed between games?
“I wash ’em every once in a while at least,” Mahomes said. “If we’re on a hot streak I can’t wash ’em. I gotta keep it rollin’.
“As long as I’m winning football games, I’ll keep the superstition going,” he added.
Mahomes has a career record of 71-18 in the regular season, has won two MVP awards and two Super Bowls – so there’s really no telling how often those undies get tossed in the hamper.
