There is a time and place for everything – and this certainly was not it for an ex-NFLer.
Gosder Cherlius, a retired offensive tackle who played nine seasons in the NFL, reportedly was arrested on Saturday for causing an alleged disturbance on an intercontinental flight.
The Delta Airlines flight bound for Dublin, Ireland, was rerouted back to Logan Airport in Boston, where Cherilus was handcuffed for disturbing a flight crew and disorderly conduct – including urinating on another passenger, according to Boston 25 News.
“Delta flight 154 from Boston to Dublin on August 17 returned to Boston Logan due to an unruly customer and was met by law enforcement,” a spokesperson for Delta told the outlet. “Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel.”
According to the outlet, Cherilus, a first-round pick in the 2008 draft, was set to be arraigned on Monday in East Boston District Court.
The remaining passengers were booked onto a new flight on Sunday and arrived at their destination without further incident.
During his career, Cherlius spent his five seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions before playing two each for the Indianapolis Colts and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He appeared in 132 games and started in 116 before he retired in 2016.
During his college career, he played four years at Boston College and was inducted into the school’s hall of fame last year.
According to his Instagram bio, he is the CEO of Bastion Companies and the founder of the Gosder Cherilus Foundation.
