Real Madrid are ruining football

The spending spree that Real Madrid are on is getting out of hand and it might not even be done yet. Even after three big money signings of some of the best players in the world, the Spanish club could still be after French star Franck Ribery. That is, if they still have any money left after their spree of transfers.

So far, Madrid have paid…

— 80 million pounds for Cristiano Ronaldo.
— 56 million pounds for Kaka.
— 13 million pounds for defender Raul Albiol.
— 30 million pounds for Karim Benzema.

So, if you’re counting at home, that is 179-million pounds or $293-million US. Will the Spanish government have to print more currency for circulation if Madrid bids for Ribery? There surely wouldn’t be enough Euros in the country to pay all five of those players.

And how preposterous is it that a player is able to not only demand a trade, but demand a trade to a specific team? If all sports were like this, leagues would break down and there would be so-called “Galacticos” in every sport. The rich would dominate even more so than they already do. The New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys could throw money at any star who fit their needs without hardly any competition. I used to think that European style of transfers over trades was a brilliant concept; now, I’m not so sure.
