Well, it took you long enough, Kansas City. Larry Johnson has been a washed up malcontent for two seasons and it took until now to cut him? If it were up to me, LJ would have been released after his lacklustre season last year when he served a suspension from the league. Why even keep a guy who actively undermined the new coach? Johnson outstayed his welcome by far and it is shameful he was even allowed to get 75 yards away from the team rushing record.
So where to now for LJ? There are always going to be several teams in need a running back who has done it before. Matt Forte’s not producing in Chicago. Julius Jones is stinking in Seattle. Everyone in Houston can’t hold on to the ball. As for Cleveland, well, any live body can go out and improve that roster. It will be interesting which teams react and talk to Johnson, who turns 30 later this month. Any team that looks in his direction have to know about his poor attitude and lack of ability if he’s not completely surrounded by talent.
So, where do I think he’ll go? Well, don’t you think Bill Belichick could turn around a once-talented malcontent?
As always, the lines are straight from Vegas and the home teams are in CAPS.
NEW YORK JETS -7 over Jacksonville
Mark Sanchez has to learn how to play well when the temperatures start to dip and facing an opponent that has no business being 4-4 really helps. Maurice Jones-Drew is usually feast or famine in the TD department and I suspect this week will be famine.
Denver -3.5 over WASHINGTON
The Broncos are coming off a tough couple of losses and need to rebound to hold the hard charging San Diego at bay. The Redskins might as well fold the season.
Cincinnati +7 over PITTSBURGH
When two legitimate teams who are heated division rivals face off, should the line really be this high? I wouldn’t count on the Bengals sweeping the season series against Pittsburgh, but I can’t see the Steelers winning big here.
TENNESSEE -6.5 over Buffalo
Edwards looked awful after suffering a concussion last season and facing a rejuvenated Titans team isn’t going to help that ringing in his ears. Do the Bills have enough healthy bodies to stop Chris Johnson?
MINNESOTA -16.5 over Detroit
This line should have been set closer to 20. The Lions may have only lost by 14 in their last matchup, but that was on their home field.
New Orleans -14 over ST. LOUIS
Holes, like in rushing defence, are starting to show for the Saints, but the Rams aren’t the team to exploit anything nowadays.
Atlanta -1.5 over CAROLINA
Matt Ryan has to turn it around or the Falcons are going to be in deep trouble real soon. The Panthers have found their running game again, but it doesn’t match up with Atlanta’s ground attack featuring Michael Turner.
Tampa Bay +9.5 over MIAMI
Miami always plays a close game, even in their wins. Josh Freeman makes the Bucs a better team, but not good enough to make a run at anything meaningful this season.
Kansas City -1.5 over OAKLAND
This game was ugly the first time it happened and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be ugly again. K.C. should get revenge for dropping the first game of this series, in which they should’ve got the W.
ARIZONA -8 over Seattle
Seattle is awful on the road and that should make up for the Cardinals lacklustre performances at home. The Seahawks don’t have the weapons or running game to keep score with Arizona.
SAN DIEGO -1.5 over Philadelphia
One of the coaches will blow this game, that’s a guarantee. At this point would you rather have Brian Westbrook or LaDanian Tomlinson on your fantasy team? Either way, you’re not getting much output. I’d go with the Chargers passing attack and get-it-done defence to take this squeaker.
Dallas -3 at GREEN BAY
The Packers offensive line couldn’t protect Aaron Rodgers from Buccaneers pass rushers last week, what can they do to stop DeMarcus Ware and Co.? Green Bay is missing their best pass rusher too, so Tony Romo should be staying clean this weekend.
New England -3 over INDIANAPOLIS
The annual match of the year shouldn’t disappoint. While Manning is a near lock in night games, you can’t overlook that the Colts play better on the road, that Brady is looking as healthy as ever and the Colts secondary has been plagued with injuries.
Baltimore -10.5 over CLEVELAND
Is this the worst Monday Night Football match of the season? Perhaps, but didn’t the schedule makers know this at the beginning of the season? It was written all over the wall that the Browns would stink.
This week: 1-0
Last week:Â 6-6
This season: 68-54-1
