2010 NFL mock draft

Today’s draft day in the NFL, so you know what that means: The easiest copout there is in the blogging world. Yes, it’s time for a mock draft.

1. St. Louis Rams – Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma.
They could have started printing Bradford’s Rams jersey the minute that the ink was dry on Marc Bulger’s release.
 
2. Detroit Lions – Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska.
It’s amazing how everybody has quickly forgotten Suh’s dominant performance to close out the season. He’s a stud in waiting.
 
3. Tampa Bay – Gerald McCoy, DT, Texas.
The Bucs would be happy with Suh or McCoy, who is the better run-stuffing big man out of the two prized DTs.
 
4. Washington – Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State.
With Donovan McNabb on board at QB, the Skins now have to get someone to help keep him upright in the pocket.
 
5. Kansas City – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma.
Williams, who spent three-years on the right side before switching this past season, should be a better fit for KC’s O-line.
 
6. Seattle – Brian Bulaga, OT, Iowa.
Replacing Walter Jones is no small task, but Bulaga is NFL ready after playing in a pro-style blocking system.
 
7. Cleveland – Eric Berry, S, Tennessee.
After landing CB Sheldon Brown, the Browns will continue to upgrade their defensive backfield with the best safety in the draft.
 
8. Oakland – Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland.
Of the remaining tackles, he looked the best at the combine. How could Al Davis pass up a work out warrior who grades high?
 
9. Buffalo – Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame.
Coach Gailey has already dropped some hints that the Bills are on their way to the Clausen era. An OT is a possibility, too.
 
10. Jacksonville – Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida.
Could trade down with second round intentions for Tim Tebow, but need to upgrade their pass rushing. The new “Freak” should end their sacking woes.
 
11. Denver – Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State.
After trading away Brandon Marshall, this pick looks like a lock. Bryant’s supposed character issues aren’t as bad people think they are.

12. Miami – Dan Williams, NT, Tennessee.
36-year old DT Jason Ferguson is suspended for the first half of 2010, making this pick a near lock. Williams is a replacement for now and the future.
 
13. San Francisco – Joe Haden, CB, Florida.
The top-rated CB in the draft will fill one of the 49ers biggest needs. Haden could have been a top-seven pick, if not for team needs.
 
14. Seattle – C.J. Spiller, RB, Clemson.
Julius Jones and Justin Forsett aren’t exactly setting the world on fire and Spiller is the top runner in the draft.
 
15. New York Giants – Rolando McClain, MLB, Alabama.
Missed out on Karlos Dansby in free agency, and definitely need some LB talent after letting Antonio Pierce go.
 
16. Tennessee – Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech.
Morgan is the DE best suited for a 4-3 defence in the draft and the Titans have a need there after Kyle Vanden Bosch left town.
 
17. San Francisco – Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers.
 The Niners will be two-for-two in filling some depth chart holes. If Clausen dropped to here, there would be some serious discussion.
 
18. Pittsburgh – Maurkice Pouncey, OG-C, Florida.
A wide receiver is an option after dealing Santonio Holmes, but the Steelers still need help on their offensive line.
 
19. Atlanta – Brandon Graham, DE/LB, Michigan.
The Falcons have no huge needs and Graham could be plugged right into their front seven. They’ll be more than happy to have him as an edge rusher.
 
20. Houston – Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State.
Texans could take a RB, but also have a need at corner. After all, they face Peyton Manning’s Colts twice a season.

21. Cincinnati – Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma.
Already set at WR, Gresham gives the Bengals another option in the passing game. We wouldn’t put them past taking a safety, either.
 
22. New England – Earl Thomas, S, Texas.
Thomas has been moving up a lot of draft boards and could go as high as seventh if the chips fall right. Bill Belichick will love that value here.

 23. Green Bay – Mike Iupati, OL, Idaho.
Versatile lineman could play either guard spot or at RT, something the Packers need as their veteran O-line ages.
 
24. Philadelphia – Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri.
The Eagles have a big need for linebackers and Weatherspoon can play anywhere in the second level.
 
25. Baltimore – Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers.
The Ravens have already restocked the wide out position in free agency and Gresham is off the board. They’ve had some depth issues at CB for a few seasons.
 
26. Arizona – Sergio Kindle, DE/LB, Texas.
The highly-rated Kindle takes a tumble down the draft board. Let’s hope Joey Porter doesn’t influence him too much in the desert.
 
27. Dallas – Taylor Mays, S, USC.
The athletic Mays would fill in nicely for the released Ken Hamlin. Fellow Trojan Charles Brown could also go here to sure up the OT spot.
 
28. San Diego – Ryan Matthews, RB, Fresno State.
The second-best running back falls to a team with big need for one. Mathews will form a great tandem with Darren Sproles for years to come.
 
29. New York Jets – Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State.
The Jets suffered after Kris Jenkins’ injury last season and Odrick can fit in anywhere along the D-line. Great for the Jets’ scheme.
 
30. Minnesota – Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama.
“Mount Cody” would be a welcome addition to the Vikings’ defensive line. With the Williams Wall aging, he’ll be a great replacement brick.

31. Indianapolis – Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama.
The Colts’ modus operandi is to take the best player available. That is Jackson here, and the Colts had some depth issues at corner.

32. New Orleans – Everson Griffen, DE, USC.
Griffen will fill the spot of Charles Grant as a 4-3 defensive end for the defending champs. DE is one of the few holes for the Saints.
