It seems that every week there’s a new No. 1 team in the NFC. Last week, all the hype was on the Green Bay Packers after an impressive run. Before that, it was the Philadelphia Eagles, who destroyed the Washington Redskins. Before that, it was the New York Giants being touted as the top team. Now, it’s most likely the Atlanta Falcons, who aren’t doing anything too over the top, but they’re playing hard – and winning – against the top teams.
Their close win over the Pack showed that they can do every facet of the game well and are pretty much unbeatable at home.
Or how about the Chicago Bears who didn’t have too tough of a time against the Eagles at Soldier Field? I guess that sort of thing can happen when you play a team that’s missing its top two corners.
Or you could go with the New Orleans Saints, who benefited from some luck to come back and beat the resurgent Cowboys.
The only division with no real contender is the West, but that’s no surprise when you look at that sorry state of affairs. Although the Niners have looked above average recently, would you really want to wager on Troy Smith in January? I thought not.
So, now to hold course, how sure are we that the Falcons can beat the Bucs in Tampa next week? Seeing the weekly shakeups at the top of the conference, I wouldn’t want to throw too much down on this game.
And as for the top of the AFC? Forget about that one. You need a decoder ring and a Ouija board to figure out what’s going to happen there.
