The NFL released its 2011 schedule on Tuesday, which is great if you’re planning a Guy’s Weekend or want to take a look at your favourite team’s path to the Super Bowl, but there’s one little thing that they might have left out: This lockout the league is currently embroiled in.
Â
Was the schedule’s release supposed to take our eyes off of the labour situation? Were we supposed to be stoked for the season opener of New Orleans at Green Bay? Of course we were and the league was smart to act like it is business as usual.
Â
But, after a day for this to sink in, can we really believe that this is schedule we’re going to get? Should the lockout delay the season even for a week, changes will be made. The longer, the more drastic they’ll get.
Â
And even if just a week is missed, some rearranging will have to be done. Division matchups like Redskins-Giants, Patriots-Dolphins and Raiders-Broncos will have to be rescheduled for later in the year. Also, the league loses out on what should be a memorable
Â
So maybe by releasing this schedule the league is saying that it really wants to work things out in this lockout. Maybe it knows what kind golden goose it’s killing. Maybe, just maybe, we won’t have to worry about this war between millionaires and billionaires killing off the greatest and most profitable league in the world.
