Sure, there were some games in the Premier League this weekend, but only one mattered.
Chelsea 1 – Liverpool 3.
Yes, Chelsea was so bad, at home, no less, that even Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool beat them soundly.
The Blues are clearly lost. A directionless team that looks nothing like the championship-winning side from last year, despite keeping nearly the entire squad the same.
It’s not like there were new stars brought in that could have upset the dynamic. Or veterans that left to mess with team chemistry.
All that it looks like is that Mourinho has entered his third-year swoon, when players start to get fed up with his antics. This isn’t a new pattern; it’s even one that happened at Stamford Bridge before.
There have been reports this week of a dressing room revolt led by Cesc Fabregas. Reports that, win or lose, Mourinho will be fired after Saturday’s trip to Stoke. Former physio Eva Carnero is likely to pursue legal action after her firing earlier this season – which reportedly set off this who thing.
And to make matters worse, Mourinho has been fined and given a one-game stadium ban for confronting referees at halftime two weeks ago.
The rumours have already started swirling about his replacement – which includes Chelsea retread Carlos Ancelloti and Guus Hiddink.
At this point, with everything that is happening with the club and with Mourinho, I don’t think there’s a way that owner Roman Abramovich can keep the Special One around.
While everyone has come forward and denied that clubhouse reports, there’s always a little bit of truth to rumours – even from the British press.
Mourinho’s three years is up. It’s time to move on.
