EURO 2020: Italy’s historic unbeaten run puts it in top spot

The second round of group stage games gave us even more excitement from what is shaping up to be a thrilling tournament:

1.Italy (3)

The Azzurri are riding an impressive unbeaten streak and look great on both sides of the ball.

2. Belgium (1)

The returns of De Bruyne and Eden Hazard make the Red Devils an incredibly dangerous team.

3. Netherlands (5)

Eased fears from that against Ukraine with great performance against Austria.

4. Germany (9)

Got all the finishing that it lacked against France in huge win over Portugal, but defence is a concern.

5. France (2)

Underestimated the Hungarians at home and now may have to settle for second in their group.

6. England (4)

Lacked the spark it had in opening win over Croatia, getting held to a draw by outclassed Scotland.

7. Sweden (18)

Defence held strong in the opener and then had Alexander Isak impress in attack against Slovakia.

8. Portugal (6)

Got the early lead but were thoroughly humbled by Germany, erasing glow from Hungary win.

9. Czech Republic (10)

It’s a tough ask, but the Czechs can top Group D with a draw against England at Wembley.

10. Ukraine (13)

Twice they’ve shown great spark, scoring two goals within five minutes in both games.

11. Wales (17)

Got exactly what it needed from stars Bale and Ramsey to score a crucial win over Turkey.

12. Spain (8)

Another game with a ton of possession, but without the result that it needs.

13. Croatia (12)

Definitely lacking the inspiration and magic of its 2018 run to the World Cup final.

14. Switzerland (11)

Still has a chance to advance, but there’s something missing from this side.

15. Austria (7)

They are who we thought they were: Good against lesser sides, mediocre against the top nations.

16. Russia (21)

Coming off an important win, but we don’t like their chances against the Danes.

17. Denmark (15)

Looked like the better team for much of the game against Belgium, but heartbreak awaited.

18. Hungary (22)

Can’t help but be impressed with how they stood up to Portugal for 80 minutes and drew France.

19. Poland (20)

Stole a point from Spain, but still have problems to overcome if it hopes to advance.

20. Slovakia (14)

Loss to Sweden was probably more indicative of squad strength than late win against Poland.

21. Scotland (24)

Taking a point against England at Wembley was essentially this team’s World Cup final.

22. Finland (19)

Still has a chance to advance, but really needed to take a point from Russia and couldn’t.

23. North Macedonia (23)

Won’t be put away easily and have impressed with their heart, but the quality isn’t there.

24. Turkey (16)

A darkhorse team coming into the tournament, the Turks never left the barn.
