NFL Week 9 picks: Burrow’s Bengals bounce back

The lines are from covers.com and the home teams in CAPs.

INDIANAPOLIS -10.5 over New York Jets

Really, I’m only disappointed that we didn’t get more of the Mike White era. And I say this unironically.

Houston +6.5 over MIAMI

With Tyrod Taylor returning from injury, that’s a huge boost to a Texans offence that has been going nowhere quick under Davis Mills. It’s not like Miami has been impressing anyone lately, either.

DALLAS -9.5 over Denver

What can we expect from a Broncos team that has just one win in five games and just traded away their best player? Dallas should have Dak Prescott back after his late scratch, but is Cooper Rush really that much worse than Teddy Bridgewater?

BALTIMORE -5.5 over Minnesota

The Vikings have all the looks of a team that is just about done with their coach. Losing to Cooper Rush in prime time is a definite low point and now they must visit a Ravens team fresh off their bye.

New England -4 over CAROLINA

If we were certain that Christian McCaffrey would be returning, the points would be tempting. But with either an ailing Sam Darnold or P.J. Walker under centre for the Panthers, it’s hard to back them.

JACKSONVILLE +14.5 over Buffalo

Is the Manningcast curse a real thing? Any player that has appeared on it lost the following week. While we don’t see Buffalo getting upset by the Jags, couldn’t they at least keep it close?

CINCINNATI -3 over Cleveland

So which Ohio-based team bounces back best from their Week 8 loss? The Bengals let their foot off the gas in their upset loss, but don’t have the seemingly deeper-rooted issues the Browns do with their passing game.

Las Vegas -3 over NEW YORK GIANTS

Even with the terrible Henry Ruggs news hanging over their heads, you can’t ignore how much the Raiders have improved since canning Jon Gruden. New York dealing with a midweek COVID outbreak doesn’t help, either.

NEW ORLEANS -6 over Atlanta

We’re not sure who will be the Saints QB, but either way it’s probably bad news for the Falcons. Atlanta’s three wins have come against some dreadful competition and should have trouble moving against the Saints defence.

PHILADELPHIA +1.5 over L.A. Chargers

Justin Herbert is in a bit of a funk, which isn’t unexpected for a young QB, even one as good as he is. The bigger problem is that the Chargers can’t stop the run and the Eagles looked reinvigorated with their ground game last week.

Green Bay +7.5 over KANSAS CITY

Aaron Rodgers’ absence shifted this line about a touchdown, which we’ll gladly take. Sure, Jordan Love is making his first NFL start, but he’s not exactly going up against a defence that will trouble him.

Arizona -1 over SAN FRANCISCO

The Cards suffered their first setback of the season last Thursday, but have already beaten the Niners once this season and can certainly do it again. Kyler Murray is dealing with a bit of an ankle injury, but should be good to go.

L.A. RAMS -7.5 over Tennessee

With Derrick Henry out, the Titans have to rework their entire offensive identity in just a week while also facing one of the league’s better defences. It’s not like Tennessee’s defence will be able to slow L.A.’s offence, either.

PITTSBURGH -6.5 over Chicago

Justin Fields had arguably his best game of the season in last week’s loss, but the bad news is that coach Matt Nagy is back this week. With the bye coming up, would another loss be enough for Nagy to get sacked?

Last week: 6-9

This season: 53-68-1
