FANTASY FOOTBALL: Tyreek Hill our runaway top stud of Week 1

The best and the worst of fantasy football in NFL Week 1.

STUDS

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, MIA

466 passing yards, 3 passing TDs, 1 INT, 5 rushing yards, 28.1 points.

The Dolphins QB threw for THREE TIMES as many yards against the Chargers as he did last year against them.

Aaron Jones, RB, GB

41 rushing yards, 86 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 25.7 points.

Had an excellent game against the Bears before suffering a hamstring injury in the third quarter.

Austin Ekeler, RB, LAC

117 rushing yards, 47 receiving yards, 1 TD, 24.4 points.

If Ekeler knows one thing, it’s how to score touchdowns.

Tyreek Hill, WR, MIA

215 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 39 points.

Hill said his goal is reach 2,000 yards this season and he sure got off to a good start.

Brandon Aiyuk, WR, SF

129 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 28.9 points.

Often the forgotten man in San Francisco’s offence, Aiyuk will be fresh in opponents’ minds now.

Hunter Henry, TE, NE

56 receiving yards, 1 TD, 14.1 points.

It was a rough week for tight ends, with only two scoring double-digit fantasy points before the Sunday nighter.

Arizona Cardinals DEF

20 points allowed, 6 sacks, 1 INT, 2 fumbles recovered, 1 TD, 19 points.

Not exactly the first team you’d expect here, but the put the screws to the Commanders in a close loss.

Nick Folk, K, TEN

5 FGs, 18 points.

DUDS

Joe Burrow, QB, CIN

82 passing yards, -1 rushing yard, 3.1 points.

Looked incredibly rusty in the rough weather and was eventually pulled in the fourth quarter.

Lamar Jackson, QB, BAL

169 passing yards, 1 INT, 38 rushing yards, 1 fumble lost, 7.5 points.

Not exactly the sort of production we expected after an off-season of hype for the new aerial attack.

Antonio Gibson, RB, WAS

9 rushing yards, 10 receiving yards, 1 fumble lost, 0.4 points.

Has clearly been overtaken in the backfield by Brian Robinson, who out-touched Gibson 20-4.

D’Andre Swift, RB, PHI

3 rushing yards, 0.8 points.

Despite Rashaad Penny being a healthy scratch, Swift had just two touches – one rush and a catch for now yards.

Tee Higgins, WR, CIN

0 receptions, 0 points.

With Burrow looking completely out of sorts, Higgins couldn’t come up with any of his eight targets.

Drake London, WR, ATL

0 receptions, 0 points.

New season, same lack of passing from Atlanta as London had just one target in the game.

Christian Kirk, WR, JAX

1 reception, 9 yards, 1.4 points.

Was a complete after-thought in the Jags passing game with one catch on three targets.

Dallas Goedert, TE, PHI

0 receptions, 0 points.

Was held without a catch and had just a single target against the Pats.

I HOPE YOU STARTED

Mac Jones had just two 300-yard passing games last season, but he already notched his first one of 2023 in the opener. His 25.1 fantasy points were the second most by a QB heading into the Sunday nighter and it came against one of the league’s strongest defences in the Eagles.

-With all of the hype surrounding Bijan Robinson after the Falcons drafted him in the first round, people forgot that Tyler Algeier had 1,000 yards as a rookie last season. Atlanta’s “backup” racked up 94 yards and two TDs to outperform Robinson.
