NFL WEEK 2 PICKS: New Orleans Saints go marching through Carolina

The lines are from Sportsbook Review and the home teams are in CAPs.

PHILADELPHIA -7 over Minnesota

I’m not sure what the Vikings were thinking on the last play with Kirk Cousins trying to throw a 90-yard Hail Mary. Why not try the old hook-and-lateral?

L.A. Chargers -3 over TENNESSEE

It can’t be overlooked that the Chargers hung with a powerhouse Miami offence last week. The Titans aren’t even in the same league as what the Dolphins can do, so we have no issue backing the visitors in an early start.

ATLANTA +1 over Green Bay

Both teams took care of business against division rivals in their openers, but we’re not buying Jordan Love as a road favourite against a probable playoff team just yet. Aaron Jones nursing a hamstring injury is also a concern with the Pack.

Indianapolis -1 over HOUSTON

It’s a bit weird picking the Colts as a road favourite over any team, but you had to be a bit more impressed with Anthony Richardson than C.J. Stroud in their debuts. One will get their first win and we think it’ll be the fourth-overall pick.

DETROIT -4.5 over Seattle

The Lions have a big rest advantage in this one and also see the Seahawks fly east and get an early kickoff. The Lions proved to be worth the off-season hype by upsetting the Chiefs and can continue it in Week 2 against a reeling visitor.

TAMPA BAY -2.5 over Chicago

We’ve never been the biggest fan of Justin Fields as a passer and he’ll be tested against the Bucs. Tampa’s defence still has a lot of talent and could be a somewhat shocking 2-0 if they don’t blow this.

BUFFALO -8.5 over Las Vegas

It’s a big number considering the Bills just blew it against the Jets last week and Josh Allen was doing his best to lose the game with some questionable throws. Buffalo should cut down on the mistakes from Week 1 and roll in it home opener.

JACKSONVILLE +3.5 over Kansas City

Andy Reid has an excellent record when his team gets some extra rest and there’s also an added boost from Chris Jones ending his holdout and Travis Kelce potentially returning. The thing is, there’s a lot to like about the Jags offence with Trevor Lawrence and Calvin Ridley hooking up, plus Travis Etienne looking like a beast on the ground.

Baltimore +3.5 over CINCINNATI

Joe Burrow and the Bengals offence are sure to improve over that disaster last week, but the Ravens should improve too after struggling early against the Texans. This game likely comes down to a field goal either way, so we’ll bank the points.

New York Giants -5.5 over ARIZONA

The Cards were able to capitalize on some sloppy turnovers in Washington last week, but we can’t forget this team has a serious talent deficit. Brian Daboll likely read his team the riot act after that embarrassment against Dallas and should bounce back.

San Francisco -7.5 over L.A. RAMS

The Rams scored the upset in Seattle last week but now must face a whole different monster. Kyle Shanahan’s Niners have always fared well against Sean McVay’s Rams and have the talent to score a blowout win.

DALLAS -9 over New York Jets

It’s Zach Wilson vs. the Cowboys defence. You’d like to think that makes this a lock, but don’t forget the Jets defence is also among the league’s best. We’ll lay the points though, remembering that the Jets’ offensive line has little chance of containing the Cowboys pass rush.

DENVER -3.5 over Washington

They say that poor offensive lines don’t travel well and that’s what we’ve got coming from Washington. The Commanders also will be tested by the mile-high altitude that always poses early season problems for visitors.

Miami -3 over NEW ENGLAND

The Pats defence showed that it can stand up to great offences when it slowed the Eagles last week, but the Dolphins are a different style based on speed in the passing game. New England’s entire offensive line is ailing as well, which is never good news.

New Orleans -3 over CAROLINA

While the Saints didn’t find the end zone as much they probably would’ve liked to, they moved the ball well against Tennessee and then got the stops on defence. Carolina is a work in progress and will be in tough.

Cleveland -2.5 over PITTSBURGH

The Steelers laid an egg in Week 1 and now have another tough matchup. Now, they’re down two of their most important players in Cameron Heyward and Diontae Johnson. Heyward will be very much missed in trying to slow down all-pro RB Nick Chubb.
