Even the best golfers must play out of the rough occasionally, but two baggage handlers were caught playing rough while unloading bags of golf clubs.
In a video posted to X by Eastern Tennessee State University’s men’s golf team, two Delta Air Lines baggage handlers are seen tossing the team’s golf bags while unloading the plane after it landed at San Diego International Airport on Tuesday night.
“Nice of Delta to handle our clubs with such care…” the post is captioned.
One person is seen grabbing multiple golf bags off the conveyor belt and uncaringly tossing them into a pile in front of another worker, who picks each up and puts them onto a trailer.
The video is shot through the plane’s window and many passengers can be heard laughing about the treatment of their belongings.
Reactions to the post on social media were particularly brutal towards the U.S.-based airline staffers.
“Why don’t they move the trailer closer so it’s a one-step process?” a user asked.
“Those guys are called ‘baggage smashers’ for a reason,” another wrote.
One user tagged golfer Patrick Cantlay, who is sponsored by Delta.
Other alleged mistreatment by Delta of baggage turned out to be a running theme from commenters.
“Sadly not surprised. Destroyed my luggage. Told me I should expect damage on travelling so they’re not liable despite seeing my newly shattered frame of my luggage. Delta don’t care,” one user wrote about their experience.
“I’ve seen my baggage handled like this so often I believe it’s the standard,” another commented.
Delta has responded to the video, issuing a statement to a CBS affiliate in San Diego.
“We apologize to the ETSU Golf team and ask for a mulligan on how their equipment was handled. We’re in direct contact with the Bucs to ensure they have what they need to successfully compete in the NCAAs,” Delta said.
