Fubo has scored a big win in the battle for Canadian sports streaming supremacy.
The sports-first streaming service announced on Thursday morning that it is retaining exclusive broadcast rights for English Premier League soccer, signing a multi-year extension which begins with the 2025-26 season.
The new deal means that Fubo has exclusive rights to stream all 380 Premier League matches in Canada over at least the next three seasons, following the current campaign.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Fubo became the exclusive home of the Premier League in Canada ahead of the 2022-23 season, securing rights that had previously been held by DAZN.
The deal keeps the world’s biggest league in Fubo’s portfolio, which also includes Italian Serie A, French Ligue 1, matches featuring the Canadian men’s and women’s national teams, the Canadian Premier League, Copa Libertadores, and more.
“The Premier League is considered the most prestigious soccer league globally and we are proud to remain the exclusive home of this elite competition in Canada,” Ben Grad, senior vice-president of strategic partnerships and operations with Fubo, said in a press release.
“Fubo was founded with the mission to stream premium soccer and a range of sports for consumers and we’ve built a strong audience by carrying leagues that Canadians are passionate about. This renewed agreement underscores the value that Fubo’s sports-first audience and industry-leading platform bring to world-class content providers like the Premier League.”
A spokesman for the Premier League, which is winding down its 2024-25 season with Liverpool seemingly set to equal Manchester United’s record of first-division championship, said the new deal helps bring the EPL to Canada’s many passionate fans.
“We are delighted that Fubo has extended its partnership for another three years, recognizing the Premier League as a key part of its programming,” said Paul Molnar, chief media officer at the Premier League. “The Premier League has many passionate fans in Canada and Fubo does an excellent job making the competition available to them.
“We look forward to working together over the coming seasons as we continue to showcase the excitement of the league to both new and existing fans.”
